The Popular

Underwater Drill

Tech-2000 started building handheld underwater drills in the late 1980’s. Together with scientists from around the world, we have been asked to build lighter, alternative fluid powered, environmentally conscience, logistically friendly and highly portable underwater drills for use in the toughest remote sensitive areas worldwide. Innovation has been a collaboration with many scientist worldwide and is ongoing to this day. Tech-2000 and it’s clients have been working together to solve their independent needs and specific requirements for years. We take pride in our work and our line of underwater drills exemplifies this tradition...

GPS Mast

Standard in research and survey firms

GPS Mast

The GNSS (originally GPS) mast program was started in the mid 1990’s. Working with scientists and engineers from the University of Hawaii’s Pacific GPS Facility (UH), University of Texas Institute of geophysics (UTIG), and the later addition of University of Memphis’s Center for Earthquake Research (CERI), a technical support program was started that focused around campaign measurements. We critically reviewed many survey designs in use and developed the fundamental design in use today...

Testimonials

Our group installs continuous GNSS stations around the world to monitor ground motion over time for use in plate tectonic models, volcano monitoring, sea level monitoring, and earthquake studies. When possible we use Eddie Wheeler at Tech-2000 masts as GNSS antenna monuments at continuous GNSS stations. The masts are simple to install and level. To install the masts, we drill holes into bedrock or large settled concrete slabs and use Hilti HIT-HY 200 epoxy with 316 stainless steel threaded rod to mount the masts. We use doubled up hex nuts with fender washers to level the masts so we can get the best data with our antennas.

For our purposes it’s important to have a GNSS monument that we can leave installed for as long as possible (up to 20 years or more).  With the Tech-2000 mast, the GNSS antenna mounts to a puck that slides into the top of the mast and is set with 3 set screws. This allows us to replace GNSS antennas as needed while keeping the integrity of the monument intact. Over the past 10 years we have had to swap out several GNSS antennas at sites with Tech-2000 masts, and it has always gone smoothly. We have never had to replace a single Tech-2000 mast that has been installed in the field.
